Automatically applying selection of feature to related table attributes?

$

0
Alright, so this might be an ignorant question, but I am sort of stuck with this issue at the moment.

I have a GDB with a feature class and a stand alone table. I have created a relationship class that is 1-M. When using the identify tool or related tables button within the attribute table, the related features/attributes are correctly selected. What I am looking for is to be able to simply select the object in the feature class on the map, and it automatically apply that selection to the related stand alone table so that it would reflect every attribute associated with the previously selected object.

Is there just a setting I am missing? My relationship class setup is obviously functional. Everything I have researched implies that is how it should be working naturally, but mine is not.

Any ideas?

Syncing geodatabase to tablets

We have 10 windows tablets running ArcPad and are trying to create an offline syncing environment to the main geodatabase. We gave up on syncing ArcPad directly the built-in tools so now we are trying a work around. We are trying to use shapefiles and just sync the features that have changed since the last update (run in background every 24 hours). After updates are completed, new shapefiles will be exported from the main geodatabase and copied to the tablets. I am looking at writing an Arcpy script to "Find Identical" features between shapefile and geodatabase then switch the selection. Has any one done something like this before and recommend what tools to use?

ArcSDE connection error

Hello,

I recently encountered an error when trying to add a domain to an ArcSDE database. I have attached a screen shot of the error message. It appears that there is a problem connecting to the SQL Server database but I'm not sure what is happening since things were working fine a few days ago.

Import XML schema by SDE command or python script

Hello,

I have an XML schema file of feature classes.
I'd like to be able to import that schema into a geodatabase using SDE command or Python script. I don't want to use ArcCatalog.

Do you know how I could do that?

Analyze Datasets

Just to be clear, because the help isnt explicit on this, if I leave in_datasets as an empty string in python Analyze Datasets will or will not run on all datasets? I assume it will as thats consistent with the behavior of other GP tools but I like things spelled out.

Not enough memory in the filegroup PRIMARY + Cannot delete corrupted raster

I am trying to add data to a raster in an sde-File Geodatabase during which I received an error message complaining that the MSSQL Server sde database ran out of memory. Now my problem is that because the process was not successful, the raster file is now corrupt and cannot be opened or deleted by ArcCatalog. So I can´t delete the corrupt file.

Why does the sde database get so big? Do all my data get copied into the sde database when I register a geodatabase with ArcSDE? The File Geodatabase in question in on my harddrive.

Windows 7 64bit / ArcSDE 9.3 / ArcGIS 10.0

Thanks,

Robert

Limit Spatial Index

Hi,

We have an application in ArcGIS 10 platform that uses spatial indexes.
The indices of this application to a particular region had its boundaries changed 9.2km to 90km.

This asks from is if we have a limit to establish the change of indices so that does not cause problems in the performance
of the database.

So how are attachments stored in a geodatabase exactly?

Just wondering if there is anyone out there who has a relatively simple answer to the question of how exactly attachments are stored as 'blobs' in a geodatabase table?

“register as version” geoprocessing tool for multiple feature classes\tables\datasets

“register as version” geoprocessing tool for multiple feature classes\tables\datasets,

I’m wondering if there is a geoprocessing tool that can “register as version” multiple feature classes, tables and datasets in one go.

Attachment 30323

At the moment, “register as version” geoprocessing tool can’t register multiple feature classes, tables and datasets in one go.

Instead, one can select multiple feature classes and register them in one go. This fails if mixture of feature classes, tables and datasets are selected

export xml fail

I have tried numerous times (and experimenting with all options) to export an xml file of a personal database so that I can try using the xml file in ArcGIS Diagrammer. Every attempt to export results in a fail message. I would like to export all data and schema at once, but wondering if maybe that's too much info to process I have reduced my selection to single feature classes, a few feature classes, have made sure to exclude 2 raster files included in my mdb file, have tried exporting as a zip instead of an xml...always I get a fail message even if I just try to summarize my selection.
I could send a zip file if anyone wants to see if they can export my file. My mdb file is based on an ESRI ArcGIS utility model, but has a few additional feature classes, fields, and domains.

Hi there

Any help on the below porblem greatly appreciated:

I have a route and route event tables - and if I make a route event layer within a normal mxd enviroment all is fine.

This route layer is then added to an SDE. When I then generate a route event layer using the route from the SDE, some of the event locations are slightly off. It is although a different measurement technique is being used (2D v 3D)

Any info on this problem would be a huge help!

How to setup ArcSDE 10.1 on LINUX to coneect to user-schema geodatabases

$

Hello,

I need to setup ArcSDE services on a LINUX machine to user-schema geodatabases under ORACLE on a different LINUX machine and I don't seem to be able to do it. As far as I recollect from diverse entries in the ArcGIS ressource center
a) I have to setup a separate ArcSDE service for each user-schema with an unambigous service name and port number
b) I have to store the service name and port number as well in the $SDEHOME/etc/services.sde as in the /etc/services
c) I need a distinct dbinit.sde named dbinit_<service name>.sde for each service
d) in each dbinit_<service name>.sde I have to name the user-schema I want the service to connect to

First of all I maybe have not found further conditions I have to meet.
Secondly item d) is where I do not know how to name the user-schema. Do I have to set the SDEUSER variable ?

Please be someone so kind to help me !

Thanks and kind regards,

SDE features have broken link in outside application, but are fine within ArcMap MXD.

Hello all,

When connecting to an sde connection in ArcMap I have no issues. I can add features and see everything fine. There is no broken source links.

We have software that uses Arc MXD's, and when I open the MXD's in this software the sde features have broken links. All other features ( Shapefile and GDB Feature classes) are fine. When I try to add the sde layers from within this software I get this error:

!!Couldn't connect to the database. Please validate the integrity of the database and/or your network connection and try again.!!

Has anyone ever experienced this before? I have tested on other machines and the sde connections are fine. This seems to be an isolated problem to this computer. Could the SDE DB connection be locked to ArcCatalog and ArcMap only? What other computer security/settings should I look for that could be different than other machines on that network?

** Using Oracle, direct connect, user: sde pass: xxx. Are there any security settings within Arc or on the computer in general that could block a connection like this?

Thanks

Importing an excel worksheet into a file geodatabase

$

Hello,

I am trying to import an excel worksheet into a file geodatabase using the Table to Geodatabase (multiple) tool within ArcCatalog but everytime I run it Arc gives me an error saying that "Failed to execute (Copy Rows)". I have imported many excel files into the same file geodatabase recently but at that time no errors were encountered, so that is why I don't understand why I get error this time. I think it is because this time the excel worksheet has some cells that have information in multiple pararaphs so the data in the same cell is separated by spaces.

Please let me know what the issue is this time and how I could fix it or work around it to get the excel worksheet into the file geodatabase.

Thanks

Distributed Geodatabase Network I/O error

ArcSDE 9.3.1
ArcGIS Desktop 10 SP5
Disconnected synchronization process.

When importing an xml file using the Import Changes button from the distributed geodatabases toolbar (Arc10) the process errors. It will run until it reaches 5877 objects and then progress slows way down to only process 100 features at a time until it reaches 6577 and it errors saying:
Import Changes failed.
Network I/O error.
Network I/O error [Sync_Send_101_9][STATE_ID = 1769]
Network I/O error [Sync_Send_101_16]
The workspace is not connected.

We have had no issue for several months importing and exporting files.
Has anyone else experienced this?
